Bachelorette Episode 3: Spoilers and Recap

Spoiler Alert: Tonight the Bachelorette and her 16 remaining suitors are still in L.A. You’ll see a one-on-one rappelling date with Ed that goes well and one with Sasha at an automotive museum (and then cruising in a Ferrari) that doesn’t end well. Jillian twirls the rose around in her hand in the Ferrari, but declines to give it to Sasha. Why? Perhaps because he’s said he’s never been in love. Who needs a romantic kindergartner?

It’s also the Western episode (like the General Hospital episode of last season) where the guys and Jillian act out scenes, almost all involving kissing. I think this is where Brad makes his fatal mistake that gets him sent home at the rose ceremony.

David continues his beef with Juan and seems to be the loose cannon on the show, always ready for a fight and most in need of anger management and a manners lesson. The sixteen tonight will be pared down to thirteen, and starting next week, they all embark on a series of Canadian dates, from Vancouver to Whistler to Lake Louise and Banff. The Canada episodes promise to be more interesting than tonight’s, mostly because of the activities and scenery, including helicopter rides on glaciers, ziplining, an overnight at a backcountry lodge (of course with hot tub), and overnight train rides on the Rocky Mountaineer. As for who goes home tonight, here’s my list:

Brad, 27, financial advisor from Chicago, IL.
David, 27, trucking contractor from Dayton, OH.
Ed, 29, technology consultant from Chicago, IL.
Jake, 31, commercial pilot from Dallas, TX.
Jesse, 27, wine maker from Carmel Valley, CA.
Juan, 35, general contractor from Santa Monica, CA.
Kiptyn, 31, business developer from Encinitas, CA.
Mark, 26, pizza entrepreneur from Denver, CO.
Michael, 25, break dance instructor from Astoria, NY.
Mike, 28, baseball camp owner from New York, NY.
Reid, 30, realtor from Philadelphia, PA.
Robby, 25, bartender from Spring, TX.
Sasha, 27, oil and gas consultant from TX.
Tanner F., 28, sales rep. from Derby, KS.
Tanner P., 30, financial analyst from Dallas, TX.
Wes, 32, musician from Austin, TX.

Tonight’s official episode description:

Jillian rappels down the exterior of L.A.’s Bonaventure Hotel with one bachelor, gives another a ride in a Ferrari and escorts 11 others to a movie set, where they attend a wrap party for a Western (and one guy lassos himself a date rose). There’s also some late-night canoodling at the mansion and a confrontation between two guys just before the rose ceremony. In the end, 13 men remain standing.

As for who will make it to the end, I’m revising my roster. I had the top three as Kip, Reid and Mike, but I’m changing it to Kip, Reid and Ed. It looks like Mike will go home in one of the Canada episodes.

How Ed gets to the end is a little unclear — he may have left the show and then returned. Yes, that would be unprecedented, but host Chris Harrison has said something happens in the middle of this season that hasn’t happened before. There’s a photo in a Canadian magazine this week of Ed kissing Jillian on a boat in Maui, and Hawaii is where Jillian takes her final three guys, so it seems like Ed is one of them.

The order of date locales goes: LA, Canada, home town dates (Philly, Encinatas, Austin and probably Carmel) with an elimination back in LA, Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Seville) and Hawaii (Maui, the Big Island and possibly Kauai, with the finale at or near the Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island.)

Reid (Philly) and Kip (Encinitas) get “home town dates” — as do Wes (Austin) and possibly Jesse the vintner (near Monterey/Carmel). None for Mike, so he’s no longer in the top three.

Wes gets let go after the HTD and doesn’t make it to Spain. Jesse might make it to Spain, but for sure he was home giving interviews while filming was ongoing in Hawaii, so he’s not one of the final three. Jake goes home before the HTD’s.

If you need a glossary, its:
HTD: Home Town Dates
FD: Fantasy Dates
LCD: Last Chance Dates
FRC: Final Rose Ceremony

So get ready tonight to say goodbye to Brad, Sasha and Tanner F (not the foot-fetisher Tanner P, whom like angry Dave, they need for comic relief and drama for another episode or two.)

  1. Jeralyn says:

Yes, she did practically shudder. I think the producers insist she keep some for comedy/drama (Tanner and Dave) until later in the season.

  2. OtherLisa says:

how do they arrange to keep the “comedy relief” in, do you think? I mean, Jillian barely got through her lines about “feeling more comfortable” with Tanner P. without shuddering.
