Dancing With The Stars: Final Competition

Melissa Rycroft

It’s the final competition on Dancing With The Stars. All of the three finalists are incredible tonight. My favorite is Melissa, but Shawn and Mark’s free-style was incredible — and Gilles is really good. The judges didn’t love her free-style but they still gave her “9”‘s. So she’s still in the running.

This seems like it will be the closest year ever. Considering Melissa only joined the show four days before it began airing, just getting to the finals is such an accomplishment for her.

Here’s an interview today with Melissa and Tony.

The show has been on long enough for the professional dancers to also have a fan base of their own. Cheryl and Mark are extremely popular with the viewers, where Tony isn’t quite as magnetic.

I think the outcome is impossible to predict because of the viewers voting, and because I really do think the producers do what they have to to keep the show interesting and the viewers guessing/surprised. At this moment, their only focus is making sure they get people back next season.

I think it will be between Gilles and Shawn. Shawn’s performances the past few weeks have been really good. But, they seem close in judge’s points, so maybe the viewer votes will determine the winner, and then it could be any of the three. They really are all winners in my book.

Gilles has my votes. Of the 3, he’s the one with the least amount of athletic/dance experience and has been improving week after week. I have a hard time voting for the ones who come in with an edge on the others.

As opposed to the slam dunk contest in the NBA where small stature can make you the fan favorite, in dancing small isn’t likely to work to your benefit with the voters. Still, Shawn put on the best finishing act this evening as her freestyle dance gained energy from start to finish while the other two began to falter.

It will be hard for either Shawn or Melissa to bump Gilles off the podium though.
