Bachelorette Episode 6: All Aboard, Jillian Whittles the 8 Down to 5

Tonight is the final Bachelorette episode filmed in Canada. The scenes take place aboard the Rocky Mountaineer and in Lake Louise and Banff. You can watch an extended preview here. Note: as always, spoilers ahead.

There’s an individual dinner date on board the train. Say goodbye to Texas bartender Robby. He’s let off with his luggage at the next stop.

Country singer Wes, who continues to get the bad-guy edit, which I don’t believe is fully deserved, visits Jillian in her train car. She’s happy to see him.

Then there’s a group snow-shoeing date. One guy gets a rose. On the train, pilot Jake gets insecure and tells Jillian how he feels about her, including that he hasn’t “felt like this” since his high school sweetheart. Remember Sasha? Bye, bye Jake. (But look for him to come back in Austin next week at Wes’ home town date, where he tries to steer Jillian away from Wes.)

Jake has been cast as this season’s version of the weepy Jason.

Tanner drops his drawers. Bye, Tanner. How funny would it be if they made Tanner hoof it out of there on foot?

Then the group gets to Lake Louise and Banff. The Fairmont hotels shine, as they should. I’ve stayed at the Fairmont Banff and spent an afternoon at the Chateau Lake Louise. Simply gorgeous. At Lake Louise, there’s the final one on one date with Philadelphia realtor Reid. The date scene includes play at an outdoor ice castle. Reid gets his rose.

The rose ceremony takes place in the Cascade Ballroom at the Fairmont Banff. At the end of the night, those remaining will be Reid, Wes, wine vintner Jesse, surfer Kip and break-dancer Michael. And, if you are waiting for the show to elaborate on one contestant’s inability to perform in the bedroom, forget it. That’s also a likely smokescreen. Maybe in a few episodes, you’ll see a stomach ache. If that.

Future Spoilers:

Next week, there will be home town dates with the five, and then a trip to LA for a rose ceremony where one leaves (hint: Michael) and the remaining four go to Spain. We know Ed returns and is also in Spain — but, does he return at the LA rose ceremony to hand Jillian the (by now) wilted rose he insisted on keeping when he left last week? Or does he show up unexpectedly in Spain? If he does show up at the LA ceremony, Jesse could be going home in LA as well. But, I don’t think it matters much since Jesse will not survive Spain, if indeed he gets there. Ed, on the other hand, is going on from Spain to Hawaii, with Kip and Reid.

It also seems Wes makes it to Barcelona. Yes, last week I said he’d be leaving after his home town date, but then an ABC preview aired with this picture, which is reportedly in Barcelona.

But, for those of you Wes haters (and I am not one), don’t despair. Wes won’t be one of the final three going to Hawaii — unless it’s to sing a congratulations song to Jillian and her F1 at the final rose ceremony.

Regardless of how the show presents it, my money is on Wes opting out, either after his home-town date or in Spain. The show filming lasted weeks longer than anyone thought, and with a new record coming out and a summer tour planned, no way he would agree to be one of the final three, in my view. Rumor has it that everyone but Jillian knew he was only cast to go as far as the final four. I think he genuinely likes Jillian, but like is as far it gets.

How do we know all this? Following the sleuthers at FORT and Joker’s, analyzing the “screencaps” in the previews and reading the episode guides and the facebook/twitter/my space pages of the contestants.

If you like Wes, you can catch him June 27 with the Marshall Tucker Band at the Showgrounds at Sam Houston Racetrack, or July 4 at the House of Blues in Dallas. He’s the ABC underdog this season, getting the worst edit, and I’m all in favor of supporting the underdog. So, don’t believe the splice job the show has put together for him. Even Jillian says he’s one of the few she’ll defend to the very end.

My predictions tonight with those leaving in bold:

Jake, 31, commercial pilot from Dallas, TX.
Jesse, 27, wine maker from Carmel Valley, CA.
Kiptyn, 31, business developer from Encinitas, CA.
Michael, 25, break dance instructor from Astoria, NY.
Reid, 30, realtor from Philadelphia, PA.
Robby, 25, bartender from Spring, TX.
Tanner P., 30, financial analyst from Dallas, TX.
Wes, 32, musician from Austin, TX.

Feh, I tried to comment on the most recent post and I kept getting caught in that “you must be logged in” loop.

I still…dunno…I agree that we are not hearing his comments in context and that there’s a tremendous amount of slicing and dicing going on (I worked in “teh Industry” for many years and I know this for a fact). But I wouldn’t trust Wes at all. It’s a career opportunity for him, and while he’s been sort of upfront about that, it still doesn’t bode well for a real relationship between him and Jillian. I found something a little weird about that hometown date with everybody at the table being female and worshipping Wes – except Wes, of course. It felt off to me.

And by the way, I can’t believe I’m seriously analyzing all this! 🙂

I felt bad for Jesse, I liked him, and god god, who among us would not want to fall for a guy whose family owns a winery!

Kipton’s family…again, maybe editing, but Mom was a little off-putting.

Michael…I liked him and his family a lot.

The Ed of it all…I can’t say that I get it, but I think they are really into each other.

    It’s a fascinating psychodrama, that’s for sure!

I don’t think he’s creepy at all. He’s been nothing but respectful and solicitous to Jillian. I think we’re not hearing his comments in context. It seems to me he was Jillian’s favorite and when he told them he would bow out after Spain, they had to scramble to find another possible love interest and brought Ed back at the LA rose ceremony that will air Monday night to fill that spot and have three in Hawaii. I doubt they’ll show it that way though.

    NOW it works! Yay!

Anyway, I can tell from the editing that they are making Wes look extra-bad, but I think he does a pretty good job of looking bad on his own. I think he’s kind of creepy.

The whole thing is a fascinating psychodrama.
